What’s Dodd Up To Now?

December 21, 2007

Well, he failed to qualify in New York, which pretty much ends his campaign.

But, he’s not giving up the fight.  Here’s a video following his marathon filibuster of the FISA telecom immunity bill (see if you can pick up the subtle hits on Majority Leader Harry Reid).

Following the FISA effort, the blogosphere has been abuzz with suggestions that Dodd should challenge Reid for the leadership of the majority in the Senate.  Though I still feel that he would be a wonderful reprieve from the disastrous efforts of the Bush administration as President, I think it might be just as meaningful for the future of the country if he were Majority Leader.  However, if there is even a kernel of truth to this suggestion, I’m sure Dodd will thoroughly consider a similar bid he made in 1994 when he lost to then-Sen. Tom Daschle.

And, in advance of the Iowa Caucus, he’s up with his final ad push.  The ad is simple and elegant (with a soft, well-paced piano soundtrack).  Dodd discusses the importance of proper experience and his belief that he is capable of winning a general election.  It’s good, but I don’t think it will have the effect he hopes for – and needs.
